As I am working remotely from the university, I fell I need to respond to the emails.
I am not an expert by any means, but I do work with experts in the College of Natural
Sciences and Mathematics at the California State University, Long Beach.
It is imperative at a time like this to be respectful and appreciative of our medical
personnel and research personnel to say the least. All the medical and research
people around the world, honestly ! The medical personnel are going to work and
are at risk of dying and or bringing this virus (with no cure) home to a family member.
Most of us go to work – but we are not at risk of dying !!!
So many people are dying, children are dying !!! We are losing doctors, nurses,

This novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) is not SARS2. This is a Novel Virus-
of course, novel meaning “new”. It is having surprising new and strange results every day.
The original predictions of only being dangerous for older people and people with

I am not familiar with formal education, career background or work experience.

Virologists do read charts and analyze the data. They created the data from their
tireless research. They contribute to the discovery of new vaccinations – this is a slow
and steady and accurate process.

A friend of mine sent this to me this morning and it includes a lot of points I agree with. Three of my direct family members are working in potentially dangerous settings. It’s a long article but very worthwhile.
I’ve seen a lot of people itching to “reopen” the country. Maybe I can add a tiny bit to this conversation and hopefully not be castrated for it. I’m a physician (ER Radiologist) and I’m seeing these patients. Right now there are many, many unknowns.
1) A high percent of people who get sick are dying, including young and healthy patients. For some reason the statistics being reported in the news is not what I’m seeing. I’m seeing a high proportion of dying patients in their 40’s. I’ve seen probably 2x more 40 year olds dying than patients over 70.
UPDATE 4/21/20: Since there have been nursing home outbreaks, the morbidity and mortality age statistics I’ve observed have started to reflect what is being reported in the media. Understand, though, this disease still greatly impacts younger individuals in very high numbers.
2) The ones who are surviving, including those who have “asymptomatic” random findings I see in the ER’s end up having elevated cardiac markers. In other words, this virus is messing with young patients’ hearts… and not a little bit. I’m talking WILDLY elevated cardiac markers. This could result in a massive need for heart transplants in the next decade and only time will tell if these patients convert to full blown cardiomyopathies (not a diagnosis I would wish on my worst enemy). If you are not scared of “a little” pneumonia and a small percent chance of dying from it, you should ABSOLUTELY be scared of getting a cardiomyopathy (and being among many at one time who will be getting it). This would be devastating for society.
3) This is only the first wave of the infection. All pandemics we know of come back with a vengeance. We won’t know when and we won’t know how bad. The (now decreased) estimated loss of life only takes into account ONE wave WITH mitigation. Any other assumptions after this one wave is truly a blind guess.
4) We don’t know whether or not infected individuals are gaining immunity. We also don’t know when a vaccine will be declared effective. It will be at a MINIMUM (best case) 18 months before we know, not a worst case.
5) We don’t know the effect of viral load yet. Whether the amount of virus you’ve been exposed to or remains in your body is a factor. Does it take repeated exposures or just one to become ill?
6) We don’t know ALL the effects of this virus yet. We know a common symptom is loss of smell and taste. Besides being incredibly “inconvenient” it means this virus is infecting the neurologic system. Herpes/Varicella viruses infect the neurologic system and then can get reactivated as the immune system weakens or when you get older. (How would you like to go through a life threatening illness every year of your life when you get older?) We also know many viruses cause cancer… HIV, EBV, HPV, etc. We don’t know if that will be the case with this one yet.
7) We don’t even know how to treat this well yet… forget cure, I’m talking about “well.” Once infected and progressing to the need for a ventilator, this infection doesn’t behave at all like what we’ve seen before. Hence, ineffective treatment and ~80% mortality on a ventilator. You don’t want to be in that situation. The last thing you’ll experience is suffocation and intubation and no family or friends around you. Not a great way to go.
— My take: Now, I don’t know about you, but if it meant that I stay locked up in jail (and we are not) in order to save my wife’s life or my children’s lives, you damn well believe I’d do it. I’ve seen the biostatistics, the epidemiology, the lack of trustworthy data coming from other countries, the conspiracy theories, but most importantly I’ve seen these patients lives and families be destroyed. Play the long game and don’t be impulsive. If we have no people left to participate in an economy, in a government then none of this is worthwhile. The best thing you can do for yourself and this world right now is avoid this infection at all cost and stay alive. Yes, all cost.

stock here, just my third day back, so still just getting rolling. I went to deal with a minor nightmare of DMV bueracracy, the “Safety Check” for vehicles. I missed the registration by 4 days, and then you go into the “trick zone”. Vehicles must pass an ANNUAL safety check, which is not a horrible idea, as people in Hawaii don’t have to worry about their vehicles breaking down in a snow storm, and so they drive cars past their useful life with hillbilly level maintenance. Many people have no insurance even though required by law and a $1000 fine or more. Cops don’t really enforce it, and if you do have to go to court, and you temporarily put insurance on the car, and show that, it is usually thrown out.
Now since Registration and Safety are expired, you have to go get a provisional Safety Check, set up an appointment with the DMV (they love the power they got in COVID for controlling access to basic government services, and kept it in place. This also makes sure they are not “overworked” by a continuous line of annoying slaves. So I set an appointment for Monday, online. Then I will have to go in show them the provisional safety, pay for the registration $570 a year for a regular truck, and then return into the city to the safety place, and finally pay for and get the safety sticker. On the way, noticed that Honolulu is really turning into a Shit Hole. Lots of homeless, people living in their cars, all medians and edge of the road covered in trash and weeds and grass not cut for months. Many local people are being forced to just leave as they can no longer afford to live here. Milk is $7 a gallon, A chocolate bar is also $7, Gas is right around $5 per gallon. According to preliminary results, Question 1 is projected to pass. That amendment stipulates that “private donations and grants may not be applied for, accepted, expended, or used in connection with the conduct of any primary, election, or referendum.” Question 2 requires that “only election officials designated by law may perform tasks in the conduct of primaries, elections, and referendums. It was also approved by voters, according to The New York Times.

A senior engineer reported his opinion of what transpired on the Dali based on what he observed and what he knows of normal practice .Michael Buckley III 24mAs a Chief Engineer for 20 years with Maersk Lines, onboard a container ship and watching the video I believe only certain events could have taken place.XA ship that size has 4 generators, 3 of them should be running & online to support all the engine room machinery, deck machinery, house load, including both a very large (KW), bow thruster, and stern thruster motor, used during maneuvering in & out of port.In order to lose all three generators, and ships power, would be caused by 2 things only: Drop of fuel pressure, or the machinery electrical computer system failed, both causing the generator main power breakers to open, loosing all power, as seen on the video. Once a ships power is lost (lights going out the first time), the ship’s Emergency Generator comes on & is designed to restart a generator engine & re-supply power to the entire ship (lights coming back on). Shortly after the lights come on the Captain realized he was on a collision course for the bridge, he put the ship in Full Astern, causing full fuel pressure to the Main Engine, (black smoke from the stack). The loss of power the second time (lights went out again), was caused by a power surge to the one generator that was supplying all machinery systems, including the Bow Thruster, which the Captain at a last attempt, requested max power to the Bow Thruster, tripping the power back off. When a ship loses power, it loses all steering until the Emergency Generator starts & supplies power to the Steering Hydraulic pumps. She Required 2 tugs to pull off docking and made a perfect u turn with assisting tugs in center of channel. Only after the DALI was under 1/4 power and heading arrow straight for under the center of bridge did the tugs let her loose and turn back into the docks of the bays. |

Definitely a big block load to drop on itsset of 4 generators totalling about 18 megawatts assuming they are paralleled worse if not all generators running or other significant loads were running. see Wikipedia entry below.Note that bow and stern thrusters are used for manoeuvring close to dock at minimal speed and not intended for use while underway. | randall stoehrrandall’s Substack 3 hrs agoI do realize there is no real direct iron shaft like an outboard or a stern drive vessel.More like a locomotive as diesel powers generators that power traction motors that are more like giant drill motor at each iron wheel. The DALI has similar drive systems to drive the shaft outbound of the giant screw(Propellers weight a ton) There are no brakes on ships. |

| Fred Jewett3 hrs agoI am open to either accident and intentional act. It has been reported that 1 minute of the black box data recordings were missing when the power went out. I assume that the black box should have battery backup. According to current information the rudder requires power from the generators to operate so no power, no main or back up rudder control. It also seems that no power means no transmission of systems data to the black box. If a fuel contamination problem occurred then that might explain the loss of power however my understanding is the main diesel and the 4 generators may have used different fuels. |

Check this out, in his video his is pretending this “shipping lane” is the same as a locked estuary tidal flow, and when you zoom out, it is absurd. Plus he presents no evidence of actual flows or prior history. He is otherwise very knowledgeable, but this is not good.
Now look at the overall view…this side shipping channel is not a “river flow” or tidal flow. Sorry Sal, no one will buy this when they look at the big picture.
